openSUSE 11.2 is scheduled to be officially released in about a week (give or take a few hours…) and, as usual, we’re gearing up to press a bunch of media for shows and the ambassadors.
Typically Novell has created the artwork for the openSUSE DVDs, but this time around we had some really interesting and creative input from openSUSE contributors.
Here are the choices — vote in the poll box below or to the right!
#1: DVD Cover 1
#2: DVD Cover 2
#3: DVD Cover 3
So, which one would you choose? Yes, I have a favorite. No, I’m not telling. Yes, there’s a ringer in the house…

Other details on the openSUSE DVDs:
- You asked for 64-bit, you’ve got it! We’re creating dual-sided media for openSUSE so that we have 32-bit media on one side, 64-bit on the other. This will be especially handy for folks (like me) who have a smattering of 32-bit only hardware still laying around.
- Live CDs: In the past, we’ve not created live CD media, but we wanted to provide some swag for GNOME and KDE specific events — so, we’re going to be creating a limited amount of live CDs that we will provide at events.
After the 11.2 release we’ll provide details on how to get media for events and so on. Sorry, we’re unable to handle individual orders for openSUSE DVDs. If you don’t want to mess with downloading openSUSE for your personal use and don’t need a full retail kit, I’d recommend checking out On-Disk.com or CheapBytes. Information on retail boxes will be forthcoming soon.
Update: Thanks for all the comments! Polling and comments are now closed. Winner will be announced shortly.

Cover #1
el 3 esta weno
I like #2 and #3 the best. I like the darker theme of #3 but I think #2 would be the best bet to keep with the image of opensuse.
I’ll choose option 2. I dont like so much the font in the front cover of version 1 and version 3 seems to dark for me. Version 2 looks more fresh and greeny as the lizard behind openSUSE in addition to that, I find more consistency in the fonts used on it. My vote goes to version 2.
I personally like the second the most, however since openSUSE 11.2 seems to be using a darker green as the color of choice, I’d say go with the first one.
#2: living colors
not easy! they all look good
if i’d had to choose, i’d go for the first one i guess..
I prefer DVD Cover #3. It simple, clean, and not overly “noisy” with all the text.
I like the first version: elegant, modern and quite simple.
I like the first one most although it would be nicer if it has a bit lighter background color. And it’s desktop neutral. I mean why the others show the Gnome desktop, openSUSE is shipped with 3 “heavy” desktops and one light. The third is also good but it’s too dark and again with the Gnome thing.
Dammit.
They’re all awesome.
To be difficult, I like #2 front, #1 back.
I like cover 1, I think That it’s no necessary to include the word DVD on the circle, My choice y the #1
#3 is by far the best one!
I’ll pick door number 3 Bob.
P.S., as for the others, I have two words:
ug ly
@Dietrich It’s really not necessary to rip on the other choices. People worked hard on those, even if they’re not to your tastes.
I Like #3
I like #3 the best.
The theme is very similar to the initial splash screen that shows up on booting the disk (the one with “welcome” in many languages).
3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3 3
Seriously. It’s minimalistic and still gets its point across. Whitespace (greenspace?) is your friend!
I wish Ubuntu did something like this.
I would choose #3. It looks clean and stylish and not to fancy. I think that nr 1 and 2 were a little un balanced at the back. But thats my opinion.
But still really good work
#3
I prefer #3, clean and good looking. My second choice would be #1.
No 1. for Sure!
#3; definitely. It’s simple, proffesional and complements the new artwork in 11.2. The others are ver good, but they are overcrowded and don’t really reflect the new artwork.
#3, absolutely
Cover #1
definitely number 3
I prefer #3.
#1 or #2, but please _not_ #3.
The third.
I like the front of #2 (around the right size for the logo & text, and to the point) and the back of #3 (clean, professional looking product details).
If I had to choose one, I’d go for #3, but remove the CD (does it matter?) and enlarge the product’s text.
#3
I think #3 is nice and matches the system theme, a bit too plain though, could use a little more graphics
All of them look fantastic and professional. While it is a very close call, I would choose #3.
I would say… Cover 2
They are all good.
Very difficult to choose !
#2, live colors
The 3rd is the best. Nice!!
#2
Cover number 3
# 3!!!!
Cover number #2
The Number “1″.
No 3
Although No.3 with the background of No.2 will look great too!
#3
#1 looks good (like brighter, bigger fonts, layout, the content of the 2 green ‘leaves’, SuSE lizard) but especially that it displays a bit more information useful to following the install process, system requirements, etc. Keep in mind not all users will have wide display screens.
Could it please show whether a 32bit or 64bit DVD or CD is the install media? Plus specific volume ID, version, release & burn date? (‘d hate to discover I’m loading from a ‘stale’ iso too late.)
Future wish list ideas…I know you’re probably near final phase, but here’s some ideas I think fun and useful:
In previous SuSE install screens, they showed the progress in loading software groups and packages from the media (or network). I presume that’s still there as an option?
I wish to see a ‘sysinfo’ type of scrolling treeview display, listing hardware detected, drivers found or if no driver is available.
Make that gecko lizard useful and fun! How about using the extension of the lizard’s tongue to reflect the install progress, perhaps flickering between steps? Add an eye blink as minor steps complete? If an error ‘bug’ is encountered, show an insect floating down, ‘snag it’ with the lizard tongue, along a balloon detailing the error and where to get help?
At the top I’d like an install step indicator on the screen top, to help user if the install process should ‘hang’, info sufficient for user and tech support to use in troubleshooting either the media or PC issues/configuration.
#3
cover #3
I like cover Nr. 1
I think #1 back is perfect, but the front is very poor — the circle seems somehow “cheap”.
If the way the opensuse logo and letters are presented in #2 could be adapted to #1, it would be simply perfect.
