The video from my keynote at the Utah Open Source Conference is up. It was a lot of fun, hope to attend again next year. Since then, I’ve given the “bootstrapping” talk two more times, hope to use it once or twice more in the next year, with modifications (of course).
Note that the slides I posted yesterday go with this talk, though the posted slides are in a slightly different order, and some minor revisions have taken place. (So I guess the slides are now at 2.0 or 3.0.)
Writing a talk is so different than writing articles and so forth. I used to dread public speaking, but I’ve started to enjoy it over the past two years. The talk I gave at Linux.conf.au in 2007 was the turning point — I spent so much time prepping for it that I was extremely confident in the material, and the audience was fantastic, the jokes went over well… overall, it seemed like a great experience (being in Australia didn’t hurt…). I don’t think I’m quite ready to go on the motivational speaker’s circuit just yet, but giving these talks provides additional fuel for thought about my work.
