Okay, first off, I sympathize with folks who’ve seen their Google rank plummet and find that their site’s traffic does a tailspin. It certainly does suck if you work hard on something and then find that something as simple as a change in Google’s algorithm means problems for your site.
But that does not make Google teh evul, mmkay? Seriously.
And I find it doubly funny that Yahoo and Ask.com are trying to use “big scary Google” to convince users to switch to their decidedly less popular search engines:
Apparently, their latest strategy is to convince users that Google’s position allows it to wield a frightening amount of control over the world’s information. Of course, they don’t just come out and say this; rather, a marketing firm hired by Yahoo and Ask has started promoting a site that cryptically warns users to “Stop The Online Information Monopoly”.
It warns that it’s only a matter of time before Google has the power of mind control, and that the way to stop this is to try a rival search engine.
Yeah. Because Yahoo and Ask.com will be so much better and more predictable if they were to snatch the search lead from Google.
Hey guys, pour the money into search and features, not advertising, mmkay? Thanks.
