That’s lovely…

I haven’t used Automatix, but I know that a lot of people that reported problems upgrading from Dapper to Edgy were (suprise!) using the third-party tool Automatix to add multimedia support and so forth. I caught this post today that notes that users asking for help from the Automatix folks get turned away if they admit they were told that Automatix may be to blame by someone on the #ubuntu IRC channel. Here’s what you’ll find on the Automatix wiki:

#Ubuntu

If someone on #Ubuntu told you that Automatix caused a certain problem don’t believe him/her. Its a known fact that the #Ubuntu channel spreads misinformation about Automatix. If you ask us for help and you mention that your were told by someone on #Ubuntu that Automatix caused the problem, your request for help will be ignored.

Classy!

I think Ubuntu users would be well-advised to avoid using Automatix unless they really know what they’re doing. And, if you really know what you’re doing, you probably don’t need Automatix…
