The deadline is rapidly approaching — the Ohio LinuxFest folks are looking for speakers for this year’s OLF.
I went last year and had a blast, and I fully expect this year’s to be even better. If you know a lot about Linux and open source, I would encourage you to submit a presentation. Deadline is July 10, so get on it!
Here’s the release:
COLUMBUS, OHIO — June 22, 2006 — The fourth annual Ohio LinuxFest is returning to Columbus, Ohio on September 30, 2006, and organizers are looking for presenters and sponsors to make this year’s event even more successful than last year’s.
The LinuxFest will be held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, and is a single-day event with sessions for experienced and inexperienced Linux users, as well as an expo floor for commercial exhibitors and non-profit Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) projects. More than 700 people attended the LinuxFest last year, and organizers expect an even larger turnout this year.
LinuxFest has a friendly, community oriented format that’s focused on educating users about FOSS in a fun environment. Because few conferences reach out to users in the Mid-West, the LinuxFest is a unique opportunity for users to come and learn about Linux, and find out how they can make use of Linux in their businesses and homes. Last year’s LinuxFest featured a diverse set of speakers and topics, and this year promises to be even better.
The LinuxFest organizers are now looking for talented Linux and open source enthusiasts to deliver interesting talks about FOSS in several conference tracks. Proposals are being accepted now, and should be submitted no later than July 10, 2006. Presentations should be educational and fun, and provide attendees with useful information. If you are interested in speaking at this year’s event, please submit your presentation by visiting http://www.ohiolinux.org/speak.html.
Hosted talks in 2005 included speakers from KDE, Novell, IBM, HP, Ubuntu, Astaro Corporation, the Linux Terminal Server Project, N2Net, the Apache Software Foundation, and many others.
Sponsorship opportunities for the Ohio LinuxFest are also available. Platinum, Gold, and Silver sponsorship packages are available, potential sponsors should see http://ohiolinux.org/sponsor.html for futher information about sponsorships. As a community event, Ohio LinuxFest organizers are also accepting a limited number of .Org “sponsorships” for free software projects that would like to exhibit at the LinuxFest.
Online registration for attendees will begin on July 1. Attendees should book their rooms at the Holiday Inn Columbus City Center as soon as possible, as rooms are limited. For more information about the 2006 Ohio LinuxFest, visit http://www.ohiolinux.org/.
