Vim tutorials, using viewports

A few weeks ago, I started writing up some short tutorials on using “advanced” features within Vim. Vim’s a great editor, but I think most users tend to use only about 5% to 10% of its functionality — I know that was true for me when I first started using Vim. The first in the series is up on Linux.com today, “Vim tips: Using viewports.” If you’re a Vim user, have a look and let me know what you think.

I’m planning on doing several of those, and then moving on to other free software tools that users should be well-acquainted with. Any suggestions for programs that users simply don’t get the most out of? Command-line tools or GUI tools, both are fair game.
